A leading health services organization is seeking a skilled Plumber/Steamfitter for the Royal Alexandra Hospital. The role involves performing journeyperson-level duties in plumbing and steam fitting, ensuring compliance with building codes and safety regulations. Candidates must have relevant certifications and a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar setting, with strong communication and critical thinking skills.
This position reports directly to the Facility Manager at the Royal Alexandra Hospital within the Facilities Maintenance & Engineering (FM&E) Department. The incumbent will be responsible for performing a comprehensive range of journeyperson-level plumber and steamfitter duties. These tasks require considerable initiative and judgment, and must be executed in accordance with blueprints, diagrams, building codes (including plumbing, steam fitting, and gas/medical gas), provincial trade regulations, and department policies. The primary location will be at the Royal Alexandra Hospital but if an event unfolds, this person may be asked to work at other sites within the zone. Potential multi-site duties as directed by FM&E Director or Manager.
As a Plumber/Steamfitter, you will perform a range of journeyperson level duties associated with the installation and maintenance of plumbing services, piping systems, fixtures, equipment, and controls used to transport water, waste, gas, air, and steam. Responsibilities include monitoring, testing, troubleshooting, documenting, and analyzing the performance of high and low-pressure steam, hot water heating, associated distribution and control systems and equipment, plumbing, medical gas, domestic hot & cold water, tempered water, glycol, chilled water, natural gas, storm and sanitary sewer systems. You will also prepare feasibility and cost estimates, reports, and request or order supplies.
Completion of an accredited Journeyperson Plumber and Journeyperson Steamfitter-Pipefitter certificates from Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training.
Minimum of 5 years of related Plumbing and Steamfitter experience in an industrial or institutional setting. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be reliable, cooperative, and capable of working independently. Must be physically capable of performing duties such as walking for long periods, climbing ladders, lifting and moving heavy materials or equipment, and responding quickly to emergencies. Critical thinking skills are essential to manage and diffuse problematic situations promptly. Ability to work in a hospital environment and around traumatic events is required. Additional experience in a large, multi-building, multi-system public facility is essential.
Health Care experience is considered an asset.
