How will you make an impact in this role?

International Risk and Controls is part of International Card Services (ICS), which covers all issuing functions across 28 international markets excluding the US. ICS issues products to our Consumer and Commercial customers and is vital to American Express's global growth strategy, offering differentiated, innovative products tailored to customer needs. The organization helps manage risk, respond to regulation, and develop new products while fostering effective partnerships across stakeholders.

The ICS Control Management Legal Entity Canada Market Team provides strategic operational risk advisory to ensure an effective control environment that meets operational risk obligations for the Legal Entity. The Analyst role focuses on embedding control management into daily operations, requiring collaboration across multiple business units, functions, and geographies.

The Analyst, ICS Control Management Canada Market Legal Entity will:
  1. Assist in executing operational risk management plans, including guidelines, project plans, and control gap resolution.
  2. Monitor issues related to KRI limits and risk appetite to manage operational risks within thresholds.
  3. Support the implementation of the operational risk framework for effective decision-making.
  4. Facilitate understanding and use of risk governance frameworks across BUs through communication.
  5. Help with basic reporting, approvals, exceptions, and change activities for the BU.
  6. Ensure regulatory changes are integrated into the risk framework and training materials.
  7. Support Legal Entity Governance & Operational Risk committees, including preparing materials and documenting risks and decisions.
  8. Share insights and best practices within the team and across the Legal Entity.
Required Qualifications:
  • 1-2 years of experience in operational risk management or internal audit.
  • Understanding of operational risk lifecycle activities.
  • Project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with process governance and compliance with policies and standards.
  • Analytical skills to evaluate data, trends, and risk scenarios.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, or related; advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.
  • Experience in KRI management, operational risk frameworks, or risk procedures.
