Job Summary
The Faculty of Science seeks a Graduate Academic Assistant (GAA) to support a small TLEF project on academic integrity. The project seeks to conduct outreach around the introduction of the diversionary process for academic misconduct at UBC as a starting point to creating further resources and tools for students, instructors and Faculties around academic integrity.
The Graduate Academic Assistant will participate in a range of activities including conducting qualitative interviews and focus groups, environmental scans and literature reviews, ethics applications, and general team support. This role will support the facilitation of Faculty and student-based conversations about academic integrity and academic misconduct. It will design questions, run arm's-length interviews and focus groups, and produce expert summary to use to create materials.
The Graduate Academic Assistant will communicate regularly with the Principal Investigators and intermittently with the larger project team. Some work is independent, and some is with the team. Hours of work are flexible and intended to average about 5 hours/week.
Work Performed
Under the direction of the Principal Investigators, the Graduate Academic Assistant will:
Conduct and transcribe interviews with students who have gone through the diversionary process.
Conduct and transcribe interviews with Faculties about the diversionary process and decision-making in the academic misconduct process.
Conduct other interviews, focus groups, and engagement activities if needed.
Perform qualitative analysis of transcribed interviews.
Based on engagement and outreach, create resources to support processes, decision-making, and awareness.
Complete TCPS2 training (ethics), if not already completed, and, under the direction the PIs, submit research ethics application.
Assist in designing evaluation of the resources created.
Track project timelines and follow-up on action items when necessary.
Support communication within the project.
Manage project documentation.
Maintain a resource library for the project, including reviews of primary literature, seminars, exemplar materials.
Collect the group's ideas, send documents out for review, collect feedback.
Work in cooperation with other members of the research team.
Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a graduate program at UBC Vancouver.
Ability to facilitate interviews and focus groups in the framework of a research project.
Interest in academic integrity and misconduct at UBC and how it impacts undergraduate students.
Ability to compose correspondence, reports, presentations, and other written materials using clear and concise professional English.
Ability to research and compile information from multiple sources, including scholarly literature.
Proficient with Microsoft Office (including Outlook), Microsoft Teams, Zoom.
Ability to collaborate and work effectively within a team.
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
Ability to exercise judgment, for example in the context of organizing multiple forms of feedback on an issue.
Working Hours and Timeline
Part-time, hourly, an average of five hours per week for six months. Rate of pay is $34.50 per hour.
Start date: ASAP.
End date: December 31, 2025.
