Job description

At Cowan, we are passionate professionals who are dedicated to doing what is right for our clients. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Commercial Mid Market, the Practice Leader, D&O / E&O will be accountable for leading a team of Account Executives specializing in D&O / E&O.

What you will do :

As Practice Leader you will be responsible for Cowan’s profitable growth strategy for your practice area in alignment with the company’s overall strategy and sales culture, including developing pipelines, retention, and supporting revenue growth to achieve sales goals through focused new client acquisition.

Key responsibilities :

  • Drive the acquisition of new clients directly or indirectly in collaboration with team members.
  • Act as a key senior contact for leaders and assist team members with managing client files, ensuring the provision of a high level of caution in support of the team members, providing insurance advice to clients, identifying insurance needs, and being the key liaison for communication between the client and insurer including coverage and claims matters.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to direct and indirect reports in support of achieving client growth goals, professional development, and personal growth objectives.
  • Effectively manage workloads and monitor through regular quality review exercises to ensure the team adheres to established service and quality standards.
  • Focus on engagement to establish a positive and collaborative working environment while maintaining accountability with all team members.
  • Develop and build relationships with new and existing clients as well as internal and external referral sources.
  • Build and manage the D&O / E&O Practice.
  • Develop monthly statistical analysis and reporting on key metrics for the D&O / E&O sales team.
  • Responsible for D&O / E&O sales budgets and targets.
  • Develop and execute sales strategies aligned with the Company’s business plans.
  • Set clear goals for team members and monitor progress in accordance with sales strategies.
  • Coordinate execution with the Marketing team to develop materials in support of Sales strategies.
  • Lead the development / execution of strategic initiatives and projects to pro-actively source and develop new business opportunities.

What you will bring :

  • Minimum of 5 years proven Commercial Insurance / Brokerage professional sales management experience, with expertise in D&O / E&O.
  • Direct sales experience in the D&O / E&O segment is an asset.
  • Business-minded with a passion for technical excellence.
  • CAIB or CIP designation (or working towards designation) would be an asset.
  • Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario Licences is required or willing to obtain.
  • Financial analysis skills would be an asset.
  • Results-driven individual with a strong desire to win business and build fellowship.
  • Strong networking skills in community and industry association events.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • High level of self-motivation, with the ability to perform effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Highly developed management and client management skills.

  • This position is subject to appropriate background checks that may include credential, employment, credit, criminal, and reference checks.
