Job description

The Departments of Pediatrics and Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Dalhousie University and the IWK Health Centre are seeking applicants for one faculty position in the Perinatal Epidemiology Research Unit (PERU). This position is a tenure-stream, full-time faculty position with a joint appointment in both departments (50% in each). Academic rank and remuneration will be commensurate with experience. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2026.

About Dalhousie University and PERU

Dalhousie University is a leading academic and research institution in Atlantic Canada. PERU comprises three full-time PhD-trained faculty members and the Departments of Pediatrics and Obstetrics & Gynaecology have an active cadre of PhD-trained and clinical researchers. Through close ties with the Reproductive Care Program of Nova Scotia and Health Data Nova Scotia, scientists affiliated with PERU will have access to population-based provincial perinatal and administrative health databases and other clinical and administrative data sources. Dalhousie University also houses the Atlantic Research Data Centre. The successful candidate will be supported administratively by IWK Health Research Services, fostering a highly conducive environment for epidemiologic research.

Position Responsibilities
  1. Attain regional and/or national funding for an active, independent research program focused on pediatric epidemiology, including child health or perinatal research with a focus on neonatal and infant health.
  2. Engage in collaborative research with faculty within Dalhousie, including clinical faculty in Pediatrics and Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
  3. Participate actively in teaching residents, fellows, and medical students.
  4. Potentially pursue a cross-appointment with the Department of Community Health and Epidemiology or other graduate programs for supervision, teaching, and collaboration.
  5. Contribute to departmental, university, and national administration and service.
Qualifications
  • PhD in Epidemiology or a related field, with demonstrated research in pediatric or perinatal health.
  • Proven ability to conduct independent research and secure regional/national funding.
  • Experience with large databases and collaborative projects is a strong asset.
  • Teaching experience, enthusiasm, and vision are required.
