The Opportunity

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Quality and Performance, this position is responsible for developing, promoting, and administering workplace safety strategies, programs, and services. It aims to ensure a healthy, safe, and respectful work environment for Carewest. The role includes oversight and guidance to the Data Analyst for integrating health and safety programs across Carewest. Additionally, the position involves representing the organization on various corporate committees such as Emergency Preparedness, Quality and Risk Management initiatives, and Safety Strategies Committee. The incumbent will provide safety expertise in compliance with Alberta OHS legislated requirements and advise senior leadership, managers, and employees accordingly. Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • A related university degree plus certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or equivalent.
  • If not CRSP certified, a commitment to complete certification within 2 years must be demonstrated.
  • Completion of Continuing Care Safety Association Auditor certification within 6 months of hire if not previously acquired.
  • Current and relevant post-degree education or designations related to Health, Safety & Environment.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant workplace safety experience, preferably in healthcare.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience leading organizational-wide change projects.
  • Experience in Emergency Disaster management.
  • Proven record in facilitation, coordination, project planning, execution, reporting, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Significant experience in problem solving, concerns resolution, investigation, and negotiation.
  • Strong team leadership skills, decision-making, coaching, and ability to inspire others.
  • Ability to foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Effective communication skills, organizational and influencing skills, client-focused, and committed to quality service.
  • Ability to explain complex issues clearly.
  • Adaptability to constant change. At least 3 years in Occupational Health & Safety in a large, diverse organization preferred, healthcare experience is an asset.

Preferred:

  • Ability to facilitate change effectively.
  • Strong negotiation skills and client focus.
  • Extensive knowledge of occupational health and safety best practices.
  • Ability to build and maintain a network aligned with Workplace Health & Safety.
  • Excellent analytical and evidence-based decision-making skills.
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations to transfer knowledge.
