The South Shore Regional Centre for Education (SSRCE) practices a culturally responsive pedagogy approach, providing an inclusive, diverse, equitable, safe, and healthy education that supports personal and academic success for the 59,000 residents of Lunenburg and Queens Counties. This area covers 5,250 square kilometres and includes 23 schools.

Description

The elementary teacher is responsible for teaching and supporting students within the South Shore Regional Centre for Education. The teacher will work within the Inclusive Education Policy framework by collaborating with school staff and families to develop individualized programs that maximize learning experiences for students.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Valid Nova Scotia Teacher Certification
  • Bachelor of Education - Elementary
Abilities / Competencies
  • Excellent communication skills (written, oral, electronic), problem solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate with school and inter-agency teams to support early intervention, service coordination, and program planning
  • Proven ability to contribute to school program planning and multidisciplinary teams
  • Knowledge of culturally responsive pedagogy
  • Current understanding of developmental trauma and its impact on learning, communication, and social engagement
  • Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and monitoring individualized programs and teaching strategies
  • Ability to employ non-violent crisis intervention techniques
  • Ability to demonstrate teaching strategies and coach staff as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality as a standard practice
  • Experience in planning training and professional learning for students with behaviors of concern
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse cultural and racial backgrounds
  • Valuing others' voices and contributions, remaining open to constructive feedback
