Max INC Rate: $97.11 | Max T4 Rate: $80.26
Experience and Role Accountabilities
- A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in a relevant engineering field or equivalent.
- Develop safe engineering solutions by applying initiative and judgment to tasks including designing, analyzing, resolving problems, and interpreting engineering specifications for medium complexity assignments related to BC Hydro projects and operations.
- Assist project or operations management in achieving safety, cost, quality, and time objectives by proposing plan modifications, recommending contractor payments, preparing progress reports, and coordinating work schedules.
- Resolve complex design and field engineering problems through independent studies and analysis, exercising judgment to recommend safe engineering designs supporting operations or project completion.
- Contribute to BC Hydro’s engineering practice by developing technical standards, exercising judgment in method and design decisions, and guiding other engineering professionals.
Additional Experience and Role Responsibilities
- Experience designing electrical utility substations operating from 12kV to 500kV, with demonstrated utility design experience in an electric utility environment.
- Support increasing workload in capital projects, emergency replacements, asset management, and Owner’s Engineer reviews.
- Prepare project documentation per BC Hydro standards, including evaluation reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis, calculations, hazard logs, and test plans.
- Develop design work packages with scope, duration, and effort estimates.
- Prepare signed/sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) following EGBC and BC Hydro practices.
- Provide technical and construction support in the field, including field reviews as required by EGBC.
- Design of transmission stations from 25kV to 500kV.
- Perform structural design, analysis, and detailing for concrete, steel, masonry, and timber structures associated with electrical substations and switching stations, such as control buildings, electrical supports, line structures, and underground vaults.
- Modify, repair, and upgrade existing substation structures; conduct seismic analysis and design.
- Perform civil design, analysis, and detailing for site development, including site prep, access roads, embankments, drainage, and spill containment systems.

- Find engineering solutions that add value and facilitate consensus.
- Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in technical writing, with strong analytical, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Experience in project management, including estimating, cost control, and administration.
- Experience conducting field reviews to ensure contractor compliance with drawings and specifications.
- Coordinate between construction management, design teams, and contractors for technical issues.
