The Opportunity

JOB DESCRIPTION

A well-rounded, Geotechnical Design Engineer in training (EIT) demonstrating knowledge combined with ingenuity is exactly what Canadian Natural is seeking for this role. This position will provide you the opportunity to utilize your expertise while gaining a wealth of new experiences to further develop your career.

  • Job location: Horizon Mine Operations - Fort McMurray, AB
  • Shift schedule: 4 days on, 3 days off (Tuesday to Friday)
  • Safety sensitive position: Yes

Key Accountabilities

  • Become thoroughly familiar with the Horizon site Geological, Hydrogeological and Geotechnical conditions and with the design, specifications, Quality Management Plan (QMP), and the Inspection and Testing Manuals (ITM) for all earth structures;
  • Geotechnical instrumentation data analysis and reporting;
  • Maintain and update Dam Safety Management documents as required by the 2018 Alberta Dam Safety Directive;
  • Geotechnical design of waste dumps, Reclamation Stockpiles (RMS), Coke stockpiles, pit slope and low consequence water and tailing containment dams; and
  • Annual Performance Reports for submission to the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) to meet regulatory approval commitments

What You Bring To The Role

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geological Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering within the last 12 months
  • 8+ months of applicable experience inclusive of student and/or CO-OP experience
  • Experience/Exposure to Geotechnical Engineering design, analyses, report writing, Geotechnical instrumentation data analysis and reporting, Geotechnical field experience in foundation investigations, earthworks construction and instrumentation monitoring
  • Eligibility for registration with APEGA is required
