Forbes Bros Ltd is seeking Vice President of Operations to oversee the pursuit, project execution and close out of a portfolio of large-scale projects across the organization.

The Vice President of Operations will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Major Projects, and work collaboratively with the Forbes Bros Ltd Major Projects Leadership Team. This position plays an active leadership role in the identification of process improvements and required change management to ensure projects are completed in accordance with client requirements.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Successfully drive behavioral change and apply expertise in corporate and project contract management within Canadian FBL Operations
  • Develop project execution metrics and metric-based dashboards that monitor project progress and streamline process, including percentage completion analysis to compare status of actual project-to-project budgets
  • Continuously review current project requirements to ensure operating divisions are completing projects in accordance with client specifications and within budgetary and scheduling allotments
  • Participate in project-debriefing sessions on a monthly / quarterly basis to verify project status and identify any required process improvements or change requests required
  • Ensure accurate internal and external reporting for all projects by leading the development of best practice reporting and methodologies based on client specifications
  • Provide insight and direction to project leads and / or estimating in reference to upcoming bids or project status updates
  • Collaborate with leadership on all potential mergers and acquisitions ensuring newly acquired companies are fully integrated with a focus on incorporating best practices in contract management
  • Initiate activities designed to develop people managers and employees to lead Safety, Quality, and Productivity efforts within their projects
  • Report to stakeholders on key deliverables and project milestones
  • Maintain and develop business relationships with key stakeholders and clients
  • Ensure quality control, safety standards and contract specifications are met on all projects across the portfolio
  • Ensure the management of all aspects of procured projects including scheduling, tracking, contract management and process improvements
  • Ability to drive organizational change at all levels

What We're Looking For :

  • Post-secondary education in Civil or Structural Engineering preferred; those with an engineering degree from another discipline with considerable civil / structural transmission line / substation design and construction experience will also be considered
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in civil / structural design and / or construction of high voltage transmission line or substation projects
  • Technical trade certification (Power Line Technician) considered an asset
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation or professional experience equivalency
  • Proven and progressive project management experience in power line and substation construction
  • Experience working with power transmission utilities
  • Experience with environmental agencies and / or regulatory authorities
  • Strong leadership and team building skills, including the ability to lead by example, build consensus, actively listen, and engage / influence employees at all levels
  • Ability to work independently with little direction and with a sense of ownership and personal commitment to exceptional results
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Task-orientated with strong attention to detail and follow through
  • Strong working knowledge of computer applications, including MS Office suite, and computer-based scheduling and tracking software such as Primavera P6 and MS Project
  • Interpersonal and client service skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a challenging fast paced, time sensitive environment
  • Strong ethics, professionalism, and interpersonal skills

This Position Also Requires :

  • Successfully completed pre-employment drug and alcohol testing to obtain clearance for site access
  • Valid Driver's licenses and acceptable divers abstract as this position requires driving and site visits
  • Regular travel to various project sites and office locations
  • Ability to travel to and work at project locations situated throughout North America
