Do you have experience in real estate and related services?Join our dynamic team at the Ministry of Transportation's Design and Engineering Branch, Property Section, where you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Provincial Highways in the East Region.Our office is responsible for obtaining property rights for the construction and maintenance of Provincial Highways in the East Region, as well as providing interim land management and/or disposal of land. Your expertise will be crucial in preparing valuation recommendations for property impacts, you'll negotiate property acquisitions with owner's and recommend compensation settlements, and you'll also manage interim land activities, including the sale of surplus land. Plus, you'll collaborate with engineering staff, legal services, consultants, and supervisors to meet deadlines.As a key member of our team, you'll interact frequently with property owners, stakeholders, and team members, including over the phone and in person. If you excel at building relationships and navigating detailed discussions, consider exploring this position further.Please note: This position is located in Kingston, ON, with some travel within the East Region.About the jobIn this role, you will:• Negotiate property acquisitions and recommend compensation settlements.• Prepare valuation recommendations for property impacts like crop damage and business loss.• Recommend and implement expropriation proceedings.• Manage property activities, including disposing of surplus land and coordinating repairs.• Prepare and review property appraisal reports for various land uses.• Work with engineering staff, legal services, consultants, and supervisors to meet deadlines.• Procure and manage consultants and contractors.What you bring to the teamMandatory requirements
  • This position requires the successful candidates to have a valid G driver's license or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidates providing proof of a valid driver's license, upon being hired.
Real Estate KnowledgeYou have:• Knowledge of property appraisal, agreements, negotiations, disposal, and land management.• Experience in acquiring, managing, and disposing of property rights.• Expertise in real estate matters, including land use planning, legal agreements, engineering drawings, surveys, and appraisal reports.• Ability to interpret and apply relevant statutes and regulations (e.g., Expropriations Act, Planning Act).Communication, Negotiation, and Interpersonal SkillsYou have:• Ability to negotiate with property owners and their legal representatives.• Strong written and oral communication skills.• Problem-solving and analytical skills to resolve issues.• Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.• Effective communication to discuss agreements and produce detailed reports.Business SkillsYou have:• Ability to read and interpret legal descriptions, survey plans, and engineering drawings.• Experience in preparing property appraisal reports and related documentation.• Ability to prepare detailed reports and correspondence.• Experience with consultant hiring, monitoring, and evaluation.• Arithmetic skills to adjust comparable sales properties and calculate compensation.Computer SkillsYou have:• You are proficient with Microsoft Office and database applications.
