The Health and Fitness Program Specialist (Child, Youth & Family) provides leadership in initiatives to enhance member experience, increase membership, retention, satisfaction, and philanthropic contributions in our Child, Youth & Family and Recreational Programs. The role involves coaching staff and volunteers, integrating principles of Healthy Child Development, Ages and Stages, Playing to Learn, and Abundant Assets into programs, with at least 30% focused on program development in Recreational Sports.

In this role, you will :

  • Provide leadership across various programs including Child Minding, Youth Leadership, Youth Council, Teen Night, Child and Youth sports, and Recreational Sports.
  • Support staff and volunteers in meeting performance standards related to MOR, Healthy Child Development, Playing to Learn, and YMCA standards.
  • Deliver programs aligned with YMCA’s mission, vision, values, and standards, including aquatics best practices.
  • Recruit, coach, and develop volunteers and participants for various youth and family programs.
  • Build relationships with members, sharing the YMCA story and educating about its charitable status.
  • Assist with scheduling, logistics, and strategic planning for youth programs.
  • Participate as a member of the senior staff team and act as an effective Service Leader.
  • Provide leadership and coaching throughout the duty period, ensuring quality program delivery.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

You bring :

  • Diploma or Degree in Recreation Leadership, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Early Childhood Education, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Current Standard First Aid / CPR certification.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience delivering fitness programs.
  • Experience coaching Basketball, Soccer, or Baseball is an asset.
  • Knowledge of child and youth development principles.
  • Experience in program development and implementation is an asset.
  • Leadership skills to motivate staff and volunteers.
  • Proficiency with computer software like Excel and Outlook.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work days, evenings, and weekends.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
