Position Overview

The Clerk, Allied Health & Day Hospital provides clerical support functions as directed by the Manager, Health Services, Allied Health & Day Hospital.

Experience
  • Previous experience working in a health care environment with patient/resident/client contact is preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a similar clerical position preferred.
  • Previous experience preferred with applicable software such as:
    • Electronic Scheduling Program (ESP).
    • Workload Measurement Program (INFOMED, Promiso).
    • Electronic Medical Records (Accuro).
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Grade 12 graduate, Manitoba Standards.
  • Successful completion of a recognized clerical/secretarial program required.
  • Medical Terminology is an asset.
Certification/Licensure/Registration

Qualifications and Skills
  • Thorough knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite of applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft “Access” would be an asset.
  • Proficiency in the use of the Internet.
  • Excellent knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of roles and responsibilities of members of the health care team.
  • Knowledge of relevant Workplace Safety and Health responsibilities.
  • Ability to use or learn to use applicable software.
  • Keyboarding skills with an accuracy of 50 wpm.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision, using good judgement and asking for guidance, direction when necessary.
  • Ability to express ideas and thoughts in English both verbally and in written format.
  • Ability to listen and comprehend effectively.
  • Ability to select appropriate communication methods pertinent to the situation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with patients/residents/clients, family members and co-workers.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to support committee functioning through preparing agendas, scheduling meetings, taking notes/minutes and other required duties.
  • Ability to establish and maintain accurate files and records.
  • Ability to organize workload and set priorities.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
