Job summary

The City of Windsor is seeking a Temporary Full-Time Planner to manage Planning Act applications, liaise with various stakeholders, and provide expert advice at hearings. This role requires a university degree in Planning and at least two years of relevant experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing the City’s Official Plan and Zoning By-law while ensuring compliance with Ontario's legislation.

Responsibilities
  1. Research and prepare reports and recommendations for Planning Act applications and street/alley closing applications.
  2. Liaise with departments, agencies, consultants, and government personnel.
  3. Prepare by-law amendments related to Planning Act applications.
  4. Implement the City’s Official Plan, Zoning By-law, and community plans.
  5. Negotiate development agreements and coordinate meetings with staff and private developers.
  6. Respond to public inquiries about planning and development activities.
  7. Provide professional planning advice and expert evidence at Ontario Land Tribunal hearings.
  8. Perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as per the Corporation’s program.
  9. Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  1. University degree in Planning or related field, or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency, with at least two years of experience.
  2. Membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners/Ontario Professional Planners Institute as a Registered Professional Planner or ability to attain membership within three years.
  3. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed.
  4. Knowledge of Ontario’s Planning Act, Provincial Planning Statement, and related legislation.
  5. Experience with Committee of Adjustment files is an asset.
  6. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
  7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, graphic aids, and land information systems.
  8. Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and related hazards.
  9. Physical work level is sedentary.
