Qualifications

  • Valid Journeyperson Certificate in Truck and Transport Mechanic or Agricultural Machinery Technician.

The Opportunity

The Fleet Services Branch within the Ministry of Highways is seeking highly motivated Journeyperson Mechanics to work throughout the province. Under the direction of the Shop Supervisor, you will maintain, repair, and modify trucks, highway construction and maintenance equipment, light vehicles, and other equipment used in highway maintenance and construction.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Conduct preventative maintenance inspections on all types of trucks and equipment, both in the shop and in the field.
  2. Diagnose equipment problems using mechanical, electrical, and computerized test equipment; determine repair methods, costs, and time.
  3. Repair mechanical, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems by replacing, fabricating, or revising parts and components.
  4. Perform maintenance tasks such as fluid/filter changes, brake replacements, exhaust system repairs, hydraulic hose replacements, etc.
  5. Develop or modify equipment or systems as assigned.
  6. Enter and retrieve data on the computer.
  7. Travel may be required, including overnight stays.

Ideal Candidate

Applicants must possess a valid Journeyperson Certificate recognized by Saskatchewan in one of the following trades:

  • Truck and Transport Mechanic
  • Agricultural Machinery Technician

Candidates in their 3rd or 4th year of apprenticeship in these trades may also be considered. Successful applicants will either hold or be able to upgrade to a valid certificate within the probationary period.
