A Day in the Life of a Cashier

As a customer, you understand the importance of helpful service. The first impression at the front of the store is crucial for building loyalty. Fast, accurate, and friendly checkers are vital to our success. Full training is provided.

Key Responsibilities

• Uphold and comply with company procedures, standards, and policies.
• Greet customers politely and friendly.
• Demonstrate superior customer service in line with Safeway’s programs.
• Process payments via cash, cheque, credit card, gift card, and debit.
• Wrap and bag merchandise.
• Balance and reconcile cash at the end of shifts.
• Maintain cleanliness of check stands.
• Stock products in the check stand area.

Job Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to learn quickly.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Highly motivated and team-oriented.
• Clear and concise communication skills, both oral and written.
• Work safely and responsibly.
• Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends.
• Availability to work any time on Sunday (Alberta only).

Physical Requirements

• Constant lifting of up to 10 pounds.
• Constant use of computer and POS systems.
• Frequent bending and twisting.
• Occasional lifting of 10-40 lbs.
• Occasional walking, squatting, pushing, or pulling.
