Job description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. Continuous improvement in quality and safety is inherent in this position.

Under the direction of the Manager or designate and in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse, Full Scope, performs assessments, plans and provides personal care, and executes nursing procedures. The role operates within the competency guidelines and full scope of practice defined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, as well as agency policies, standards, and unit-specific protocols.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience
  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN registrant.
  • Perinatal positions require either: (a) completion of a perinatal education program plus breastfeeding course, or (b) one year of recent (within the last 2 years) acute perinatal experience. Additionally, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within the past 2 years is required for perinatal roles.
Skills and Abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication with residents, families, co-workers, multidisciplinary team members, and the public.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Organizational skills to plan and implement care.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competencies to work at the full scope of practice, including medication administration, as required by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical capacity to perform duties of the position.
