Job description

Teacher – 1.0 FTE

Location: G.H. Dawe School

Commencing August 25, 2025

The primary responsibilities of this position include providing a space for students to regulate on a short or longer-term basis, as required by each individual student. The teacher will use purposeful activities to teach social skills, reduce anxiety, and assist students in feeling a sense of belonging, connection, and preparedness for learning. The philosophy of the Student Support Room comes from a proactive stance.

Required Skills
  • Exemplary relational skills with both students and other adults in the school
  • Exemplary communication skills
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed teaching practice
  • A minimum of five years teaching experience - Please note that a combination of teaching experience and other experience working with children and youth will also be considered
  • Experience teaching students with complex social-emotional and behavioural challenges
  • A solution-focused, strength-based outlook
  • The ability to remain calm amidst stressful situations
