About BasetwoWe're on a mission to make manufacturing faster, smarter, and more resilient.
Basetwo is a fast-growing Toronto-based startup backed by Boeing and some of the top VCs in the Boston, Toronto, and Bay Area ecosystems. Our platform is a cloud-based SaaS that enables manufacturing engineers to rapidly design, build, and operationalize 'digital twins' in order to optimize their production processes. Using Basetwo, engineers can rapidly simulate critical manufacturing equipment to understand behavior, improve KPIs, and mitigate operational failures.
The RoleSimulation and Control is at the heart of the Basetwo platform, and the founding team is looking to bring on a world-class expert in Process Modelling & Control who will be able to make significant technical contributions to our process simulation engine. The Head of Process Modelling & Control will not only be responsible for leading our in-house team of Process Modellers but also be actively involved in defining and delivering on the product vision of our simulation engine on the Basetwo platform.
Our ideal candidate will partner with our Customer's subject matter experts (SMEs) and our Engineering team to deliver product-driven simulation solutions to solve customer challenges in the heavy industrial and manufacturing sectors.
What You'll DoAs the Head of Process Modelling & Control, you will be responsible for:
- Working directly with manufacturing SMEs to understand their challenges, identify technical requirements, and implement advanced modeling and control solutions.
- Building heat and mass balance model templates for real-world chemical processes (i.e., distillation columns, reactors, etc.) and combustion systems.
- Driving product development as it relates to simulation, model predictive control, and optimization: Collaborating with cross-functional teams to support roadmaps and feature iterations based on customer feedback.
- Providing senior guidance as it relates to Basetwo's simulation strategy and solution development.
- Advocating for best practices among the simulation team.
- Supporting customer SMEs with configuring, training, and deploying simulation models with manufacturing and lab datasets.
- Developing custom data transformation, modeling, and optimization algorithms based on customer SME requirements.
RequirementsWhat You'll NeedTo be successful in this role you will have:
- BASc, MASc, or PhD in Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
- 8+ years of experience with process modeling in real-world/industrial environments.
- Product-driven thinking - an ability to map customer pain points to product features.
- Proven skills in modeling and control, with demonstrable research/work related to process control, optimization, simulation, and time series data.
- Comfort building first principle models and controllers from scratch in Python, reading/searching through research/academic literature to research complex problems.
- Significant experience with Python scientific/engineering computing stack: dataframes (Pandas), Numpy, Scipy, and data visualization tools (e.g., matplotlib).
- Strong technical communication skills, comfortable with delivering technical presentations.
