Project Title: Constraining the structural control, stratigraphy, and geochronology of the Davidsville Group at the Appleton Fault zone, NL
In partnership with New Found Gold Corp., MERC is seeking a post-doctoral fellow to commence in June 2025 for a two-year research project. The project focuses on the structural controls, stratigraphy, and geochronology of the Davidsville Group at the Appleton Fault zone, Newfoundland and Labrador, which hosts significant gold mineralization.
The candidate will engage in detailed mapping, core logging, geochemistry, and detrital zircon geochronology to elucidate regional structures and mineralization controls. The role includes field supervision of MSc students and contributions to understanding vein formation in orogenic gold deposits.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in structural geology, peer-reviewed publication record, and experience in mapping and student supervision is advantageous.

MERC at Laurentian University conducts collaborative research on mineral deposits, exploration, and targeting, and leads Canada's Metal Earth project. New Found Gold's Queensway project spans over 1,756 km² near Gander, NL, with numerous high-grade gold zones along the Appleton Fault Zone.
The salary range is CAD 70,000-80,000 per year, with field and analytical support provided. The candidate will be co-supervised by Drs. Bruno Lafrance and Stefanie Brueckner and should be ready to start in June 2025.
