Discovery Research Associate – Remedies for Victims of Modern Slavery in Indo-Pacific Fisheries

Join us as a Discovery Research Associate at UNSW to contribute to a significant research project focused on remedies for victims of modern slavery in Indo-Pacific fisheries.

  • Employment Type : Part-Time, 28 hours / week
  • Remuneration : Level A from $88,290 + 17% Superannuation (pro rata)
  • Location : Kensington, NSW, Australia

Research Project Significance

This four-year ARC-funded project, led by Professors Nolan, Klein, and Marshall, aims to identify legal and practical obstacles to remedies for victims of modern slavery at sea and propose solutions under various legal frameworks. Your role will support advancing scholarship and human rights at sea.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on modern slavery in fisheries, focusing on remedies.
  • Publish and present research findings in academic journals and conferences.
  • Collaborate with international partners and co-design research activities.
  • Assist in coordinating research efforts and meeting project milestones.
  • Participate in meetings and administrative tasks related to the project.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Masters or PhD in international human rights law, labour law, law of the sea, maritime law, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to conduct independent, high-quality research.
  • Strong publication record and presentation skills.
  • Effective team collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills.
