Edmonton Academy is an exceptional educational setting where teachers make a lasting impact on their students' learning and achievement. We are seeking enthusiastic, professional teachers to join our collaborative team for the 2025–2026 school year.
As an Alberta Education–designated special education independent school for over 40 years, Edmonton Academy has provided a high standard of specialized teaching to meet the needs of students with mild specific learning disorders/learning disabilities. All our students in grades 3–12 require teachers with energy, enthusiasm, and empathy to support their learning. As a school, our teachers use multimodal strategies to instruct students and may differentiate instruction and learning expectations for very small classes. Our typical instructional group size for core curriculum classes is 6–10 students per teacher.
All new educational staff receive school-based professional development from the outset to support alignment with our universal approach and specialized teaching strategies. The team works collaboratively and supports one another as a small learning community, directly and indirectly teaching all students. This school-wide positive behaviour support system has helped make our school a calm, caring, and safe environment where students, who have often struggled to be understood, can thrive.
All of our teachers develop and implement a range of evidence-based accommodations and specialized strategies appropriate to the courses and curriculum areas they teach. These strategies break down the barriers our students experience and allow them to demonstrate their ability to learn. The success they achieve helps reshape their self-perception and the narratives they have carried with them. The transformation we see in students’ academic, social, and emotional development, as well as in their independence and resilience, is remarkable.
Meeting the needs of the whole child is achieved through explicit instruction, high levels of active engagement, and visual and verbal supports, all facilitated using clear routines and expectations. A willingness to learn and use various technologies is essential, including Google Classroom, Chromebooks, assistive technology (e.g., Google Read and Write), Viewsonics/Smartboards, and educational websites (e.g., Classroom Screen, Gimkit).
We welcome applicants who hold a Bachelor of Education degree in either Elementary or Secondary Education and possess a valid Alberta Teaching Certificate. Please do not apply if you do not meet these mandatory requirements. We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
Salary: $59,710 – $87,027 per year, based on placement on the experience and education grid.
Please note: Our school calendar is slightly longer, beginning in August, but includes extended breaks such as a full week in the fall and two weeks for spring break. Our schedule also differs to accommodate students’ needs during school and provincial exam administration periods.
