Responsibilities

The National Private Payer Manager (NPPM) is one of 2 NPPMs at Lilly Canada responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with priority private payers across Canada and delivering optimal access and reimbursement for Lilly brands in a timely manner.

The NPPM has three primary responsibilities :

  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with Canada’s private drug insurance carriers, national pharmacy benefit managers and key employers in Canada to achieve optimal reimbursement for Lilly products.
  • In collaboration with cross-functional teams (Corporate Affairs, Medical, Pricing Reimbursement, Market Access (PRA), and Patient Support), develop access strategies and plans to ensure a receptive private payer environment for Lilly products, facilitating optimal and timely market access.
  • Collaborate closely with the PRA Head Office team and support the Sales / Marketing teams to exceed annual brand access objectives.

Private Payer Reimbursement

  • Work in close partnership with the PRA Head Office team to develop and implement private payer access strategies for all Lilly brands.
  • Guide the PRA Head Office team on private payer submissions to ensure they are timely and meet decision-makers / formulary committee requirements.
  • Align with colleagues responsible for private payers on mutual brand access strategies and payer tactics.
  • Assess and improve private payer account business processes and capabilities, sharing insights internally.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with decision-makers and stakeholders at private insurers and PBMs, maintaining a deep understanding of reimbursement trends and drug plan designs.
  • Develop and implement private payer programs, such as partnerships on patient compliance and disease awareness, to support reimbursement coverage.
  • Negotiate with private payers in partnership with the PRA Head Office team.
  • Support Lilly’s cross-functional teams by providing market insights on private payer trends and policy directions, participating in joint customer meetings when appropriate.
  • Monitor and advise on private payer environment trends, sharing insights with PRA colleagues and leadership.

This role reports to the Associate Director, Market Access, and is field-based, preferably in Ontario, with occasional travel across Canada.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Science background; Bachelor’s degree or higher required.
  • 5-10 years of experience in Canada’s private drug insurance industry preferred.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical market access, sales, marketing, or policy is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Lilly’s therapeutic areas and brands is an asset.
  • Deep knowledge of Canadian private drug insurance and pharmaceutical industries, including key stakeholders.
  • Fluency in French and English is required for at least one NPPM role.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to professionally represent Lilly Canada.
  • Negotiation experience is preferred.
  • Self-directed, proactive, with excellent communication, strategic thinking, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
