St. Thomas Aquinas Roman (STAR) Catholic Schools is a Catholic school authority in central Alberta, operating K–12 schools in Leduc, Beaumont, Drayton Valley, Wetaskiwin, Ponoka, and Lacombe. With a student population of approximately 4,500 and a commitment to faith-based, high-quality education, STAR Catholic is a dynamic and growing division.

Position

STAR Catholic is seeking a Division Curriculum & Assessment Learning Coach focused on Kindergarten to Grade 6. This role supports the implementation of STAR Catholic’s Education Plan’s domains and goals, working collaboratively with teachers to embed best pedagogical and assessment practices into planning and teaching. The position is temporary, with a start date of August 25, 2025, and an end date of June 26, 2026.

The Learning Coach Will

Curriculum & Assessment (K–6 Focus)
  • Collaborate with K–6 teachers to design outcomes-based learning plans aligned with the Alberta curriculum.
  • Promote sound assessment practices supporting learning (assessment for, of, and as learning), emphasizing differentiation and inclusive education.
  • Facilitate data-informed instructional planning using student achievement data.
  • Model effective teaching strategies and lead professional development.
  • Support teachers in developing long-range and unit plans reflecting learning progression and achievement indicators.
  • Coordinate peer collaboration and teacher learning opportunities.
  • Provide coaching on research-informed practices aligned with Alberta Education’s vision for curriculum and assessment excellence.
Literacy & Numeracy Leadership
  • Deliver professional learning to equip teachers with practical classroom strategies.
  • Lead initiatives to improve literacy and numeracy student achievement.
  • Create and guide data collection protocols, including screeners and diagnostics.
  • Monitor interventions and track student growth in literacy and numeracy.
  • Develop and support a K–6 literacy and numeracy framework.
  • Align classroom instruction, assessments, and Alberta’s Literacy, Numeracy, and Competency Progressions.
Technology Integration
  • Support instructional technology integration in K–6 classrooms.
  • Train staff on digital tools and platforms (e.g., PowerSchool, Google Workspace, AI).
  • Stay informed of educational technology innovations and guide staff application.

  • The ability to integrate Catholic teachings into instructional coaching and curriculum support.
  • Deep knowledge of K–6 pedagogy and Alberta Education frameworks, with practical application skills.
  • A collaborative, growth-oriented approach to professional learning and mentorship.
  • Proficiency in data analysis to inform instruction and improve outcomes.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, adaptable to various school contexts.

A valid Alberta Teaching Certificate is required. Compensation will follow the current Collective Agreement. French language skills are considered an asset.
