English Language Learning (ELL) and Learning Resource

Blended Mode Positions (K-7)

Richmond School District operates 38 elementary schools, 10 secondary schools, alternate programs, continuing education and a number of additional facilities. The district enrolls approximately 22,000 students (K-12) and employs over 3500 dedicated staff.

The Richmond School District is now accepting applications for elementary qualified teachers in English Language Learning (ELL) and Learning Resource (for a blended model) teaching.

All applicants must meet the following qualifications for both ELL and Learning Resource teaching :

  • Successful completion of a Bachelor of Education;
  • Recent contract teaching experience and / or recent student teaching experience;
  • Certified or eligible for certification with the Ministry of Education - Teacher Regulation Branch;
  • Registration with Teacher Qualification Service (TQS).

Required ELL Qualifications include :

Completed or working towards completion of :

  • TESL training through a recognized university, or
  • Queen's University Post Graduate Certificate in Training English as a Second Language in BC, or
  • The following coursework at UBC (LLED 478C, or 478A and 478B AND 489C, or 489A and 489B);
  • Equivalent course work from a recognized university.

Required Learning Resource Qualifications include :

Completed or working towards completion of :

  • Queen's University Post Graduate Certificate in Training Learning Resource in BC, or
  • An equivalent diploma / certificate from a recognized university

A minimum of fifteen (15) credits in EPSE coursework from UBC, with at least three (3) credits in five of the following six areas :

  • Meeting the needs of students with specific exceptionalities;
  • Assessment, testing, theory and practice;
  • Strategies for teaching, adapting, modifying curriculum to the diverse needs of students;
  • Strategies for teaching students with Special Needs;
  • Meeting the diverse behavioral and emotional needs of students;
  • Computer technology for the classroom.
  • Equivalent coursework from a recognized university.

Compensation :

Salary as per Teacher's Collective Agreement current salary range is $59,704 to $109,520 annually plus a comprehensive benefits package.
