The AppArmor team's primary responsibility is to develop security features and capabilities for AppArmor, the security module protecting all Ubuntu users, by providing mandatory access control to confine programs and restrict their access to system resources. Your work will improve the security of millions of people. You will engage directly with our community and customers, as well as coordinate efforts across multiple engineering teams and projects to achieve this.

An Engineering Manager is responsible for line management and career guidance. The role requires the ability to develop engineering talent, represent your team and product from a technical perspective, and drive collaboration with other teams and customers.

What you will do in this role
  1. Lead and develop a team of engineers, ranging from graduate to senior
  2. Coach, mentor, and offer career development feedback
  3. Identify and measure team health indicators
  4. Implement disciplined engineering processes
  5. Represent your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers
  6. Develop and evangelize great engineering and organizational practices
  7. Plan and manage progress on goals and projects
  8. Collaborate with other leaders as part of the security engineering leadership team
What we are looking for in you
  1. An exceptional academic record from high school and university
  2. Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling alternative narrative
  3. Drive and a track record of exceeding expectations
  4. Excellent English communication skills

  7. Professional demeanor in interactions
  8. Proficiency in C and good understanding of Linux kernel development
  9. Experience with Linux Security Modules
  10. Knowledge and passion for software and application security
  11. Experience in agile development environments
  12. A commitment to continuous learning
  13. Ability to build trust and relationships
  14. Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments
  15. Willingness to travel twice a year for company events, up to two weeks each
