Job description

Position: Vice President of People and Culture

This role will lead the human resources and organizational development efforts at Hamilton Arena and its subsidiary venues (theatre + studio). The individual will be responsible for fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture, driving talent acquisition and retention, and implementing HR strategies aligned with the company’s values and objectives. The VP of People and Culture will collaborate with leadership to ensure a high-performing and engaged workforce while upholding OVG’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

This position offers an annual salary of $140,000 to $160,000 CAD and is bonus eligible.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and execute HR strategies that support the venue’s business objectives and employee engagement.
  2. Oversee talent acquisition, onboarding, and workforce planning to ensure the recruitment of top talent.
  3. Lead employee relations initiatives, conflict resolution, and performance management programs.
  4. Implement policies and programs that foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment.
  5. Manage compensation, benefits, and rewards programs to enhance employee satisfaction and retention.
  6. Collaborate with leadership to identify learning and development opportunities for staff growth.
  7. Ensure compliance with labor laws, employment regulations, and company policies.
  8. Drive employee engagement initiatives, workplace culture programs, and recognition efforts.
  9. Oversee HR data analytics, reporting, and performance metrics to support business decisions.
  10. Represent OVG at industry conferences and networking events to enhance employer branding.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive HR leadership experience, preferably in the sports, entertainment, or venue management industry.
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices, labor laws, and employee relations.
  • Proven experience in fostering an inclusive and dynamic workplace culture.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with HRIS systems and HR analytics.
  • Certification in HR (e.g., CHRP, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or PHR) preferred.
  • Experience working with labor unions.
