The Housekeeper

Reports to: Environmental Services Manager. The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and sanitation throughout the home by cleaning and sanitizing rooms and furnishings in accordance with established policies and procedures. A key part of this role involves actively engaging residents in daily domestic activities, creating meaningful occupation and social interactions.

Responsibilities
  1. Receive assignment, gather materials and supplies, load the service cart, and transport to the work area.
  2. Perform cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and disinfecting floors; spot cleaning walls, windows, and doors; dusting and sanitizing furniture, shelves, and woodwork; emptying waste baskets; and rearranging furniture. Ensure daily cleaning and disinfection of bathroom fixtures and replenishment of supplies. Clean floors and fixtures in utility rooms and kitchen areas.
  3. Respect residents' privacy and dignity during duties, maintaining confidentiality within a warm, homely setting.
  4. Prepare rooms for new occupants following prescribed procedures.
  5. Notify the manager when supplies are low or equipment malfunctions.
  6. Return unused supplies and clean and store equipment properly.
  7. Identify potential liability issues and take appropriate actions to minimize risks.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned or indicated in the Job Task Inventory.
Qualifications
  • Understanding of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and understanding instructions.
  • A compassionate approach, capable of making others smile.
  • Ability to utilize time effectively to provide positive social interactions.
  • Focus on people's feelings during interactions and the ability to turn tasks into positive social experiences.
  • Compliance with all legal requirements, promoting individual rights, and reducing risks.
  • Current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check or willingness to obtain one.
  • Provision of documented TB test results (within six months or within 14 days of hire) or a recent chest X-ray.
  • Two supervisory references.
  • Proof of required vaccines; staying up to date is strongly recommended.
