Job Summary
We are seeking a Business Development Associate (Co-op) to support the growth of our company through involvement in both strategic and executional initiatives. In this role, you will work closely with the Business Development Manager and team, contributing to key activities such as investor relations, non-dilutive funding and grants, strategic partnerships, and market intelligence.
You will be responsible for researching and critically assessing opportunities, while also preparing polished materials including pitch decks, one-pagers, and proposals to support funding projects, partnerships, and other business development initiatives. A key part of your role will be ensuring these opportunities and materials align with the company’s goals and messaging.
We are looking for someone who excels at research, communication, and document preparation, with strong business acumen in the medical technology sector. Familiarity with AI-driven tools and other optimization technologies, or a willingness to learn them, is highly valued as we continuously seek to improve how we organize and execute business development activities. Job Responsibilities:
Note: This is an office-first role working out of our Kitchener HQ in the Medical Innovation Xchange
- Perform thorough market research, documenting technology landscapes, evaluating market dynamics, and identifying potential collaborators or competitors.
- Research and evaluate strategic opportunities including grants, partnerships, and relevant industry events, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
- Create, design, and refine company pitch decks and other business development materials, ensuring visual consistency and alignment with brand guidelines and strategic messaging.
- Conduct research on potential investors and strategic partners, assess fit, and prepare tailored materials such as one-pagers and pitch decks to support outreach and meetings.
- Assist in the screening, planning, and preparation of industry events, focusing on optimizing investor engagement and strategic lead generation.
- Effectively communicate project updates, research findings, and strategies relevance to both internal and external stakeholders
- Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement to achieve greater efficiency within the business development team
- Support other business development tasks and projects as needed
Qualifications

- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Health Sciences, or a related field
- Proficient in conducting market research and analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and potential risks
- Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to understand the bigger picture and company objectives, grasp technical and clinical projects, and connect them to specific business opportunities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present research findings and ideas to both internal and external stakeholders
- Strong attention to detail with an eye for design, ensuring materials such as pitch decks and one-pagers are visually polished, professional, and aligned with brand guidelines
- Familiarity with investor relations, partnerships, and business development processes is an asset
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive working relationships with team members, partners, and other stakeholders
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Self-motivated with a proactive attitude, eager to take initiative and quickly learn new concepts
- Knowledge of regulated industries, such as healthcare or medical devices, particularly in areas like market access, sales cycles, regulatory affairs, and reimbursement strategies, is a plus.
- Eagerness to learn and explore AI-driven tools and other optimization technologies to enhance business development workflows

- Compensation: The salary for this position will be based on the average co-op wages as outlined by your institution’s co-op program or similar institutions if specific data is unavailable, ensuring fair and competitive compensation aligned with industry and academic standards.
- Grant Eligibility: This position is made possible through wage subsidy grants such as BioTalent SWPP. As such, participants must be a current full-time student registered in a Canadian Post-secondary program. International students are not eligible. Eligible participants must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada and be legally entitled to work.
