Job description

Established commercial/residential millwork operation serving the local BC market is looking for an experienced Millwork Designer to join our established operation. As a skilled technical specialist, you will be responsible for integrating all engineering and designing steps in the process of cabinet and millwork manufacturing.

Working as part of a team of fully trained and experienced estimators, project managers, and production staff, your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  1. Engineer and create accurate drawings of casework, panels, and other components for commercial/residential millwork in Microvellum and AutoCAD, utilizing supplied dimensions, drawings, and estimating data.
  2. Adhere to project specifications, building codes, and industry standards.
  3. Utilize software features effectively to maximize production and minimize duplication and human error within the integrated screen-to-machine system.
  4. Generate tool paths for CNC machines (routers, edgebanders, automated saws) from drawings.
  5. Ensure machine operators have access to and understand the programs, notes, and support materials necessary for efficient operation.
  6. Manage tooling and material requirements for each job, ensuring proper selection and availability.
  7. Generate reports to facilitate the integration of Microvellum data with other systems.
  8. Assist in resolving production machine programming issues.
  9. Support or conduct additional programming to optimize material utilization and production efficiency.
  10. Collaborate with Estimating, Project Management, and Production teams to prepare bid packages and resolve technical challenges.
  11. Identify opportunities to improve project margins through innovation and best practices.

To qualify and succeed in this position, you must have:

  • Experience with Microvellum and AutoCAD in a casework, millwork, or woodwork environment.
  • At least 3 years of related experience in a medium to large millwork or cabinet manufacturing production environment.
  • A strong understanding of computerized systems.
  • Ability to interpret architectural drawings and bid documents accurately.
  • Excellent analytical, judgmental, organizational, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Effective team collaboration skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other general office software.
  • A personal drive for professional development in design and engineering.
Note: This position requires engineering skills as defined in cabinetmaking but is NOT a designated engineering role.
