- Assists to deliver personal care to promote comfort and safety for the residents during activities of daily living and personal hygiene in accordance with the standards of resident care set out in the Resident Care Manuals; observes and reports changes in the residents’ physical and emotional condition.
- Assists to promote independence of residents in their activities of daily living. Observes and respects residents’ individual rights and choices. Acknowledges the residents’ need for dignity and privacy.
- Maintains effective communication and good relationship with residents, families and significant others.
- Participates as a team member in co-operation with other departments to ensure quality care of the residents.
- Assists with procedures such as weighing residents, checking vital signs as directed, assists in applying unmediated skin care lotions such as Vaseline intensive care etc., collecting specimens as directed by RN / LPN.
- Attends unit / facility meetings as required. Participates in team and family conferences, provides input in problem solving process.
- Assists in the care of Wing Kei equipment by regular cleaning and inspection and prompt reporting of defects.
- Participates in creating and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by understanding and following health and Safety rules, regulations and practices such as fire, emergency response training, WHMIS, data security and infection control.
- Reports unsafe and hazardous conditions by filling out the good catch (near misses) or completing incident reports.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and observes all policies, procedures and standards of Wing Kei.
THE INDIVIDUAL WHO WILL SUCCEED
- Completion of high school.
- Some training or experience in personal care.
- Experience in senior care setting an asset.
- Good interpersonal skills.
Language Requirement
Good oral and written communication skills in English; knowledge of Chinese a definite asset.
