Breast Tumour Group Committee Chair & Breast Tumour Group Quality Lead

Regular Part-time, FTE

Working towards a world free from cancer, BC Cancer has a mandate that covers the entire spectrum of cancer care, from prevention and screening to diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.

BC Cancer provides a comprehensive cancer control program for the people of British Columbia in partnership with regional health authorities to deliver a range of cancer services, including prevention, screening and early detection, diagnosis and treatment, research, education, supportive care, rehabilitation, and palliative care. It operates six regional cancer centres in Surrey, Kelowna, Vancouver, Victoria, Abbotsford, and Prince George, along with two research centres that investigate the causes and cures for cancer.

The Breast Tumour Group Chair, who will also serve as the Breast Tumour Group Quality Lead, will provide leadership and oversight for the Breast Tumour Group committee. They will collaborate with provincial members, the BC Cancer Tumour Group Council, and BC Cancer Leadership to develop processes and strategies to improve patient care and outcomes. The Chair and Quality Lead will oversee committee work, provide strategic oversight on oncology research, quality assurance, and outcomes evaluation, and promote access to tumour-site specific data to develop evidence-based pathways across cancer care.

Role of Tumour Group Quality Lead:

  1. Measure adherence to quality standards specific to their tumour site.
  2. Identify provincial quality improvement opportunities in patient care.
  3. Establish a measurement framework to assess tumour group activities.
  4. Oversee development of clinical care pathways involving provincial stakeholders.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain high-quality care at a provincial level, including prioritizing and implementing new treatment pathways.
  2. Promote evidence-based evaluations and interventions to optimize patient outcomes.
  3. Develop strong relationships among members to reduce cancer incidence, mortality, and improve care quality.
  4. Engage with organizational leaders to link tumour groups with quality initiatives.

Additional Responsibilities of the Chair:

  1. Oversee committee work and represent the group at council meetings.
  2. Provide strategic oversight on research and outcomes evaluation.
  3. Facilitate access and analysis of tumour-specific data to improve patient care.
  4. Lead the development and updating of patient-care pathways and treatment requests.

Committee Management & Leadership:

  1. Preside over meetings, ensure diverse membership, and organize annual retreats or education days.
  2. Engage members to address issues and establish task delegation structures.
  3. Lead the design or update of tumour-specific care pathways.
  4. Promote interdisciplinary team development and research opportunities.

Advisory Role:

  1. Act as a facilitator for input into BC Cancer processes and initiatives.
