Job summary

A leading educational institution in Dartmouth is seeking an Equipment Technician to provide operational support within the School of Business and Creative Industries. The successful candidate will assist students with equipment needs, maintain inventory, and ensure smooth operation of audio and video equipment. Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a diploma related to Television and Film Production or Audio Recording.
  • You have a minimum of two (2) years (full-time equivalent) of recent, relevant occupational experience. This includes customer service experience.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite and email. Fluent computer skills in both MAC and PC platforms are essential.
  • Possess broad knowledge of the operation and maintenance procedures of:
    • audio recording, hardware and software such as Protocols and experience with live sound and/or film production set-up is essential.
    • video cameras and related post-production computer equipment and software, as well as digital still camera systems is essential.
    • a variety of lighting gear for still photography, film production, video studio, and location shooting is an asset.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Academic Chair of Business and Creative Industries, you will:

  • Provide support and maintenance of equipment for different program areas within the School of Business and Creative Industries. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, music amps and microphones, etc.
  • Assist students to identify equipment requirements for a variety of learning situations, such as setting up for live sound.
  • Assist with the daily sign out of equipment and inventory control.
  • Order materials to suit curriculum requirements.
  • Identify faulty equipment and make basic repairs.
  • You may be responsible for supporting students during the evening/weekend hours (flexible hours required) in a variety of production spaces such as studios, editing suites, announce booths, etc. This would include loaning of equipment; trouble-shooting equipment problems; maintaining room and equipment schedules.
