About the Project :
The Connect 6ix project is a pivotal part of constructing Toronto's new Ontario Line subway. The Rolling Stock, Systems, Operations and Maintenance (RSSOM ) project is one of many contracts to deliver the Ontario Line, a 15.6-kilometre stand-alone rapid transit line that will connect the Ontario Science Centre to Exhibition / Ontario Place.
Role overview
The Assistant Utilities Manager supports the Utilities Manager in overseeing utility-related activities within the project. This role works closely with the Utilities Coordinator alongside the Utilities Superintendent to ensure utility operations are executed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with project requirements and regulatory standards.
Role and general responsibilities
- Assist the Utilities Manager in planning and executing all utility-related activities.
- Collaborate with the Utilities Coordinator to ensure effective communication and alignment between project stakeholders and utility providers.
- Provide support in managing utility relocations, installations, and protection measures.
- Ensure all utility activities adhere to local, provincial, and federal regulations.
- Assist in preparing compliance reports and documentation for regulatory authorities.
- Work with environmental and safety teams to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Provide technical assistance in resolving utility conflicts and unforeseen site conditions.
- Liaise with utility companies to secure pre-demolition service disconnections, temporary connections, and ultimate connections over the various stages of construction.
- Support the review of utility designs, shop drawings, and technical specifications.
- Assist in identifying potential risks and propose mitigation strategies.
- Maintain effective relationships with utility providers, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Facilitate coordination meetings and track progress on utility-related deliverables.
- Assist in responding to inquiries and requests from stakeholders.
- Provide support and coordination to the project procurement team for RFP preparation.
- Support the preparation and maintenance of utility logs, reports, and tracking systems.
- Assist in maintaining accurate records of utility relocations and installations.
- Contribute to progress reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Conduct site inspections to monitor utility work progress and ensure compliance with project plans.
- Report any non-conformances or issues to the Utilities Manager and suggest corrective actions.
- Collaborate with the Utilities Superintendent to ensure smooth execution of field activities.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in utility coordination, construction, or infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with utility regulations, standards, and permitting processes.
- Experience working with third party utility companies and familiar with the design approval process is required.
- Experience working on Design-Build and P3 partnership models is an asset
- Proficiency in project management software and MS Office Suite. Knowledge of and experience with AutoCAD and Bluebeam is required
