Overnight Shift - RESIDENTIAL MENTAL HEALTH WORKER

Responsibilities

  1. Participates as necessary in the admission of new residents.
  2. Maintains an awareness of each resident's emotional, physical, and spiritual needs and refers him/her to other team members (when necessary) to meet these needs.
  3. Be alert that each adolescent is prepared for and attends his programmed appointments: psychological, psychiatric, educational, and medical.
  4. Provides immediate intervention utilizing therapeutic crisis intervention techniques to de-escalate potentially volatile situations.
  5. As a member of the treatment team, contributes to the formulation of a treatment plan for each individual in the unit through submission of written reports and participation in discussions. Carries out treatment plan where appropriate.
  6. Organizes recreational activities that would make leisure time a positive, rewarding experience.
  7. Sees to the daily care and cleanliness of the living facilities.
  8. Sees to overall management of clothing, household supplies, and equipment.
  9. Provides transportation - if approved as Agency Authorized Driver, will transport residents as requested.
  10. Supervises the resident's personal hygiene routines.
  11. Remains alert to be available for "active" listening to any adolescent in the unit in line with that adolescent's treatment goals.
  12. Completes daily log, and other reports as requested and submits same to appropriate staff.
  13. Follows proper procedures for reporting damage or needs in the physical plant, supplies that are needed, etc.
  14. Advances professional development by participation in the facility's in-services training program: bi-monthly supervision and by attending outside conferences, seminars, and workshops as requested by his/her supervisor.
  15. Promotes and fosters in residents positive values such as integrity, dignity, self-control, poise, honesty, self-respect; a sense of personal responsibility; motivation for study, careers and goals in life; appropriate spiritual and religious attitudes in accordance with each resident's religion; respect for personal property, equipment, etc., as well as the appropriate use of money.
  16. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. H.S. Diploma or GED, two years of college preferred.
  2. Acceptable clearance checks for State Central Register, Driver's license, and fingerprinting as required by the program.
  3. Compliance with PPD clearances.
  4. Current certification in CPR and demonstrated competency on an annual basis.
  5. This position requires successful completion of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training, which includes a written test and demonstration of the competency to perform physical restraints, as specified by the program and regulatory body. Additionally, staff must successfully complete all required TCI refreshers in order to maintain continued employment.
