Lead Early Childhood Educator are members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 5047 (CUPE). The CUPE collective agreement can be accessed by clicking HERE.

The Lead Early Childhood Educator (ECE) will take the leadership in working cooperatively with all staff, parents, and community-based professionals and service providers to introduce children into the culture of the school in a way that supports everyone's learning experience. With a thorough knowledge of early childhood development and best practices that support early learning and care, the Lead ECE will prepare a learning environment that is both stimulating and responsive to the children's interests and developmental capabilities. Continuous observation will provide the Lead ECE with a reference point for developing and planning the program to ensure children are provided with an environment in which to imagine, explore, and create new meaning by understanding and responding to their learning needs. The Lead ECE will work as a member of the school team and reports directly to the Supervisor, Pre-Primary Program.

Qualifications :

  • An undergraduate degree with a specialization in early childhood development or an undergraduate degree and a two-year diploma in Early Childhood Education
  • Level 3 ECE Classification
  • Recent experience (within past 5 years) working with pre-school children
  • Current Certification in First Aid
  • Experience in a leadership role in an early learning environment is an asset
  • Training and/or experience in a play-based learning environment is an asset
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver's license is an asset

Rate of Pay :

This is a 10-month position with a work schedule in accordance with the school year calendar which includes time off at Christmas, March Break, and Summer break.

The starting annual salary is $50,391.33 paid across 12 months (August 1st to July 31st) for working a 10-month school year. ECEs are paid every two weeks.

The annual salary for term positions less than a school year is pro-rated over the length of the term.

Hours of Work :

Lead ECEs work 7.5 hours per day (includes ½ hour unpaid lunch and two 15-minute paid breaks), Monday through Friday.
