What You’ll Be Doing

The Mid-Market Investment Banking group is a stand-alone team within Commercial Banking focused on serving the specific M&A advisory needs of companies with enterprise values ranging from $10 million to $150 million. With offices in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, and Calgary & Edmonton, Mid-Market Investment Banking is one of the largest M&A groups dedicated to privately-owned companies of all Canadian banks, and is ranked among the top mid-market advisors in Canada for the last 10 years as measured by aggregate transaction volume of M&A deals up to $150 million.

As an Analyst, you will assist senior bankers in executing all facets of the group’s mandates. This will include researching industries, potential buyers and public valuation metrics; creating in-depth financial models of acquisitions and recapitalizations; assisting in the preparation of extensive written documents including business development proposals and confidential information memorandums.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. Details on your work arrangement (proportion of on-site and remote work) will be discussed at the time of your interview.

How You’ll Succeed
  • Subject Matter Expertise – Become a “subject matter expert”. Proactively developing an awareness of M&A activity in the market, trends and developments in the global market.
  • Collaboration – Assist Managing Directors on business development calls and meetings as required. Play a key role in the preparation of client proposals and pitch books. Maintain the groups databases on a regular basis.
  • Analysis – Responsible for both quantitative and qualitative analysis and industry research. Valuation of businesses using comparable company trading analysis, precedent transaction analysis, discounted cash flow analysis and industry metrics.
  • Client First – Proactively assess your clients’ needs and propose solutions to meet those needs, including products and services offered by other groups within CIBC.
Who You Are
  • You can demonstrate some experience (1-2 years) in Corporate Finance, Commercial Banking or Investment Banking. You have experience in financial analysis and modeling in Excel, as well as creating business development proposals in PowerPoint. You can also demonstrate some proficiency in the assessment of unstructured business problems.
  • You put our clients first. You engage with purpose to find the right solutions.
  • You're driven to succeed. You are motivated by accomplishing your goals and delivering your best to make an impact.
  • You have a degree/diploma. You have a Bachelor’s degree in a business-related discipline and/or knowledge of business, economics and/or finance through education and experience. Recent completion or enrolment in the CFA, CPA/CA or CBV program would be an asset but not required.
  • Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work and you live our values – trust, teamwork and accountability.
