President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Location: Peterborough, Ontario (Hybrid)

Permanent, full-time

Salary: $100-110K

Are you a visionary leader with a passion for business development, advocacy, and community impact? A respected regional business association in Peterborough, Ontario is seeking an experienced President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to guide the organization into its next chapter of growth and influence.

As CEO, you will be responsible for the strategic, operational, and financial leadership of the association, while also playing a key role in driving new membership sales and building strong relationships with stakeholders from all sectors. This role requires a dynamic leader who can inspire a high-performing team, elevate the association’s profile, and grow its loyal member base.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Operational Leadership

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to implement a long-term strategic vision and ensure alignment with annual priorities.
  • Oversee all programs, services, and events to ensure high-quality delivery and alignment with the needs of the regional business community.
  • Identify and pursue new opportunities to strengthen financial sustainability through diversified revenue streams.

Membership Growth & Sales

  • Lead initiatives to grow membership through direct outreach, relationship building, and marketing efforts.
  • Design and implement a clear membership development plan with measurable sales targets.
  • Communicate the value of membership to potential and existing members through compelling storytelling and engagement strategies.
  • Oversee member services and ensure a high level of satisfaction and retention.

Board Relations & Governance

  • Provide the Board with timely reports, strategic insight, and financial updates to support strong governance and decision-making.
  • Assist with Board recruitment, succession planning, and committee engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with by-laws, legal obligations, and non-profit best practices.

Team Leadership

  • Build and sustain a strong, collaborative workplace culture rooted in performance, innovation, and accountability.
  • Support, mentor, and manage a team of dedicated professionals through recruitment, professional development, and succession planning.
  • Model ethical leadership and the values of the association in all activities.

Advocacy, Marketing & Communications

  • Serve as the primary spokesperson and public representative of the association.
  • Advocate on behalf of members at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels to influence policies affecting the local business environment.
  • Lead communications, marketing, and public relations to raise awareness of the association’s work and enhance member engagement.

Financial & Organizational Oversight

  • Oversee all financial management functions including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and audit preparation.
  • Ensure sound administrative systems and compliance with all legal, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide leadership for the operation of a government services office affiliated with the association.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in a relevant field such as business, public administration, or communications is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years in a senior leadership role within a business association, economic development agency, or similar member-based organization.
  • Proven track record of successfully generating new revenue and acquiring new members or clients.
  • Strong financial literacy, with experience managing budgets and financial operations.
  • Exceptional communication, advocacy, and public relations skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate teams in a high-performance environment.
  • Demonstrated success in building relationships with stakeholders from government, business, and the broader community.
