Job description

Gardewine is a Manitoba company, with terminals across Canada and a strong history that dates back to the 1950s. Since being founded in the northern community of Flin Flon, we have grown significantly by diversifying within the transportation industry. The most important aspect of our company’s operations is our dedicated people; our people will always be the source of our success and their safety and health will always come first. We are currently seeking a Terminal Manager in Flin Flon to join our team.

The Terminal Manager is a hands-on position that will oversee all day-to-day activities of the terminal. The responsibilities include managing freight delivery, equipment utilization and maintenance, employee scheduling, dispatch, sales, and customer service. Leading and managing terminal operations will require a proactive, hands-on approach with the terminal team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Provide positive customer service that results in mutually beneficial long-term relationships.
  2. Manage terminal employees in areas including safety, scheduling, coaching, and assessment.
  3. Outline, coordinate, and monitor service schedules and levels.
  4. Coordinate freight movement, tracing, claims, and dispatch within the terminal area.
  5. Monitor freight movement to ensure maximum load factors and service levels to minimize claims.
  6. Maintain staffing levels that ensure productivity and performance.
  7. Oversee reporting and record-keeping on productivity, utilization, and service levels.
  8. Minimize accidents involving contractors and employees through risk identification processes.
  9. Review sales activities and customer contacts.
  10. Conduct claim investigations and inspections; follow up with customers as required.
  11. Develop and lead training plans for employees.
  12. Ensure housekeeping, productivity, and quality standards are maintained.
  13. Manage inventory of tools and supplies to reduce risk, loss, and damage.
  14. Practice safe work procedures and ensure the team adheres to safety standards.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Responsible for leading, managing, and supervising the terminal team.

Candidate Experience

The ideal candidate will have experience working in a large commercial or industrial facility leading a team. Post-secondary education and a minimum of three years’ experience in general freight operations are preferred. The candidate should possess excellent organizational skills, the ability to prioritize tasks, work under pressure, and manage critical and unplanned requirements. Strong interpersonal skills are essential to foster relationships with business unit leaders, vendors, contractors, and suppliers. A hands-on approach and experience using Microsoft Office programs are required. Knowledge of WHMIS and the Health & Safety Act is also necessary. Ideally, candidates will hold a Class 1 license.
