Job description

Based out of the Electrical Division Edmonton (EDE) location, the Production Worker - Steel Fab will report to the Manufacturing Supervisor of the Fabrication department. Under the direction and guidance of the Journeyman Welder, the Production Worker - Steel Fab will use a variety of skills and tools to produce precision parts and construct Powell Canada products.

Responsibilities:
  1. Assist with daily and weekly preventative maintenance of the metal working machinery.
  2. Move parts from one manufacturing operation to the next, according to the part routing.
  3. Load and unload steel or other products from trucks (indoor / outdoor).
  4. Assist with shop and yard organization.
  5. Support Brake Operators with heavy or awkward parts during braking operations.
  6. Assist machine operators with various tasks upon request.
  7. Support Welders during weld operations.
  8. Remove finished parts from sheet metal skeletons.
  9. Deburr, grind or finish metal parts using all types of air / electric grinders or sanders.
  10. Sort and stack parts by part number & job number.
  11. Assemble kits of parts to be welded.
  12. Operate pallet jack, forklift, and cranes.
  13. Use general hand tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, vise grips, etc.
  14. Perform labor tasks such as painting, grinding, sanding, or cleaning as directed.
  15. Promote a safety culture and attend all safety meetings.
  16. Ensure quality by following standard work instructions and identifying risks to product quality.
  17. Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  18. Perform other duties as required.
Job Requirements - Core Competencies:
  • Ability to read a tape measure, including conversions between fractions, decimals, and metric/imperial units.
  • Conscientious, thorough, accurate, and reliable in tasks.
  • Adhere to manufacturing policies and ISO requirements.
  • Work effectively within a team and with other departments.
  • Basic command of English, both written and verbal.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-2 years of metal fabrication shop experience is an asset.
  • Safety certifications are an asset.
Working Conditions:
  • Temperature-controlled environment with occasional outdoor activities.
  • Wear PPE at all times when required.
  • Work from all types of ladders.
Physical Requirements:
  • Maintain body balance and agility.
  • Repetitive bending, standing, walking, and reaching.
  • Use upper extremities to exert force up to 50 lbs.
  • Use hand tools for long periods with frequent repetition.
