Your work environment at EXP

EXP is currently seeking a Junior to Intermediate Geotechnical or Environmental Engineer or Geoscientist in its Thunder Bay, ON office. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing geotechnical investigations, environmental investigation, landfill monitoring, and remediation support for EXP in Thunder Bay and the surrounding areas.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

  • Conduct project coordination, fieldwork, and reporting for a variety of sites projects in northwestern Ontario using standard field methodologies and protocols under the guidance of senior engineers/professionals;
  • Assist with desktop reviews, geotechnical engineering projects, environmental monitoring projects, due diligence environmental investigations being conducted for regulatory submission;
  • Prepare reports and assist with proposal preparation for review by a Senior professional;
  • Other duties as assigned/required.

What Your Experience Looks Like

  • Minimum 1 to 4 years of experience in the geotechnical and/or environmental engineering field in Ontario; preference will be given to those with consulting experience;
  • University degree in Engineering (civil/environmental/geotechnical/geoscience), Geology, or a Bachelor of Science with applicable experience;
  • Professional Engineer, Engineer-in-Training currently registered with PEO, or Professional Geoscientist or Geoscientist-in-Training, currently registered with PGO is an asset;
  • Experience in conducting geotechnical investigations, soil logging, factual reporting, etc.
  • Knowledge of provincial (Ontario Contaminated Sites Regulations, Excess Soil Regulations, Hazardous Waste Regulation, Landfill guidelines), and federal (CCME) guidelines for contaminated sites assessments;
  • Experience in contaminated sites investigations (e.g., Phase I, II and III ESAs using CSA and Ontario Regulations standards) is a requirement;
  • Familiarity with Ontario Excess Soil Regulation 406/19 (e.g., Assessment of Past Uses, Sampling and Analyses Plan, Soil Characterization Report, etc.)
  • A motivated, self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within a team environment;
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and self-motivated individual;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as technical writing abilities;
  • Proficient with software, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Autocad, and gINT. Knowledge of Civil 3D is an asset;
  • Physical ability to undertake fieldwork assignments throughout Ontario;
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license. A reliable vehicle to travel to job sites would be an asset.
