Qualifications

Position: Permanent / Full-Time

Job Purpose

Fitters are responsible for assembly, fitting, installation, and fabrication of metal components for various structures and products.

Responsibilities

  1. Displays a commitment to Waiward’s incident-free vision, values, and culture.
  2. Reads blueprints and specifications to determine the materials necessary to lay out work.
  3. Assembles and fits metal sections and plates to form complete units or subunits using tack welding, bolting, or other methods.
  4. Lays out reference points and patterns according to component specifications.
  5. Grinds, stamps, cuts and drills material.
  6. Conducts housekeeping and general cleanup.
  7. Attends daily toolbox meetings.
  8. Demonstrates a willingness to learn and ask questions.
  9. Completes tasks with minimal errors, rejections and NCR’s.
  10. Ensure that all non-conformances are reported and that the shop, where applicable, maintains the integrity of quality standards.
  11. Follows and documents established procedures.
  12. Reports personal injuries, no matter how minor, and obtains medical attention as required.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Must be a registered apprentice, an Alberta-certified journeyperson, hold a valid recognized credential, or possess the skills and knowledge expected of a Journeyperson.
  2. Basic Rigging Course an asset
  3. FLHA Training an asset
  4. Certified Overhead Crane Operator an asset
  5. WHMIS

Working Conditions

The incumbent is required to work in the fabrication shop with moderate noise.

Physical Requirements

The incumbent is required to stand and sit for extended periods of time and will require good physical attributes for walking on uneven ground, climbing, confined space entry, limited lifting, and sitting.
