Position Summary

Without supervision, level one CMM inspectors demonstrate an expert ability to read engineering drawings and interpret GD&T per ASME 14.5 standards, perform complex set-ups and operation of CMM scanners. This includes the ability to produce and interpret CMM readouts to communicate with production regarding dimensional conformance. While primarily operating CMMs, they will also perform mechanical inspections as required. CMM inspectors are typically categorized as level three and four quality inspectors and perform First Article, In-Process, and Final Inspection tasks.

The successful candidate will have experience performing these inspections in a machine-shop manufacturing environment and possess proficient knowledge of GD&T.

This position supports 3rd shift operations , scheduled Sunday - Thursday, 8 : 15pm - 4 : 45am , with possible overtime. Training will be from 8am to 4 : 30pm for approximately 3 months or until proficiency is demonstrated. Shift premium applies when moved to 3rd shift.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities include :

  • Utilizing documents to validate product meets dimensional requirements inside and outside of CNC machines.
  • Performing first article inspections to certify processes.
  • Using CMM for part inspection.
  • Validating GD&T requirements with manual inspection techniques.
  • Prioritizing workflow based on daily shipping list.
  • Conducting visual tests and measurements with appropriate tools.
  • Creating nonconformance tags and documenting nonconforming products in MRB software.

Required Skills :

  • Proficiency in English reading and writing.
  • Punctuality and decision-making skills.
  • Basic shop math, fractions, decimals, and trigonometry.
  • Ability to perform visual inspections and use inspection tools.
  • Computer literacy for document processing.
  • Reading blueprints and interpreting drawings per ASME Y14.5.
  • Applying metrology techniques and contributing to process improvements.
  • Locating reference points and measuring dimensions accurately.
  • Understanding and applying AS9100 standards.
  • Self-motivated, team-oriented, and safety-conscious.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization per 6S initiatives.
  • Adhering to all safety and company policies.

Experience & Education :

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of relevant inspection experience.
  • Experience with First Article, In-Process, and Final Inspection.
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand measurements and tolerances.
  • Manufacturing / machining experience, preferably in automotive, aerospace, or similar industries.
  • Experience in CNC machine shop environments is preferred.

Physical Demands :

  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for measurements and handling.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or twist as needed.
  • Occasional lifting up to 35 pounds.
  • Visual acuity for detailed work, color distinction, and focus adjustment.
  • Manufacturing and production floor setting.
  • Exposure to noise, mist, airborne particles, and typical manufacturing elements.
