Job Information and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Athletics & Recreation, the Head Coach, Cross Country and Track & Field develops and coordinates the interuniversity Cross Country and Track & Field programs in a manner designed to foster and enhance the positive moral, academic and athletic growth of the athletes. The Head Coach recruits student for and promotes the program in a manner consistent with the goals and objectives of the University. The Head Coach oversees the SMU Open track & field meet along with regional and national meets when required. Remains up to date with and applies current AUS, USports rules and eligibility policies. The Head Coach also creates a following of loyal supporters and partners through community outreach and alumni relations who may help financially with the Cross Country and Track & Field programs. These responsibilities are required in organizing a competitive and successful team while promoting academic success for student-athletics. The Head Coach is also responsible for the direction and development of assistant coaches within the program.

Experience and Education Requirements

To be the successful Head Coach Cross Country and Track & Field, you will possess an Undergraduate Degree and a minimum of 3 years of directly related work experience or background in competitive athletics. Additional requirements include current knowledge of coaching techniques, methodologies and strategies, strong leadership ability, Safe Sport certification and a National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) certificate or equivalent or progress towards certification. Previous experience in post-secondary athletics is an asset.
