Position Overview

Join the Fixed Plant Reliability and Planning team as an Engineering Co-op student and soar to new heights in your career! With a two (2) week on, two (2) week off FIFO rotation at the exciting Ekati Diamond Mine, this position will be reporting directly to the Planning & Reliability Team Leader. This is a 8-month term position, starting from January 2025 to August 2025, inclusive.

As a valued member of the Reliability Engineering team, you'll be exposed to Fixed Plant maintenance giving you a unique opportunity to gain a wealth of experience in asset management, and project engineering. Ekati mine is the perfect place to challenge yourself and grow your skills, with opportunities to develop capital project scopes, perform data analysis, reliability optimization, and hands-on skills in the field.

Job Duties / Responsibilities

  • Protecting the safety and well-being of yourself and your co-workers.
  • Following all Company specific safety protocols, policies, and procedures relating to Occupational Health & Safety, Environment, and Communities.
  • Providing project scope and designs, prints, plans, and safe work instructions for project execution and maintenance activities.
  • Regularly inspecting Fixed Plan operations to ensure plan compliance and to identify opportunities to improve our practices.
  • Carrying out root cause analysis (RCA) to determine and develop engineering solutions for repetitive failures and other problems that adversely affect fixed asset operations.
  • Supporting implementation and monitoring of Assets using predictive maintenance technologies.
  • Assisting in Preventative Maintenance optimization and development of Asset Strategy.
  • Engaging with skilled trades, operators, and contractors to develop safe work instructions for maintenance activities.
  • Utilizing Key Performance Indicators, sensor data, and historical information to identify cost saving opportunities.
  • Supporting all facets of project management including scoping, justification, estimating, planning, execution, and management of change (MOC).
  • Performing in-field equipment inspections to monitor asset health, predict failure events, and prioritize maintenance activities.
  • Writing memos and reports to capture and communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Hosting meetings and presentations to communicate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and project updates to key stakeholders.
  • Creating and evaluating innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business.
  • Fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture.

Education / Experience

  • 2nd or 3rd year student in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university. Equivalent education will also be considered.
  • Project leadership, Planning, Time management, Decision making and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to learn innovative technologies and platforms quickly, accurately, and efficiently.
  • Ability to articulate sophisticated concepts clearly and in a way a diverse audience would understand.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills (English).
  • Proficient with CAD modeling software and Microsoft Suite.
  • Ability to perform in-field equipment inspections at heights and in confined spaces safely while following policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of general mining and industrial safety requirements and procedures.
  • Good understanding of engineering principles.
  • Ability to work comfortably in an industrial or surface mining environment, working from heights and in confined spaces. Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team to achieve best-in-class efficiency and productivity.
  • Strong safety values.
  • Prior work experience obtained through an Internship, Coop, or summer job will be considered an asset.
  • Experience with reliability tools and best practices (FMEA, RCA, Pareto Graph, etc) will be considered an asset.

Additional Information

The Company provides travel to and from the Ekati mine site out of Calgary, Yellowknife, and other northern fly points.
