Job description

Looking for individuals to join our home care family in Vancouver, Burnaby and Coquitlam.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Companion works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or designee and provides direct observation and companionship to clients in their home.

QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Be eighteen (18) years of age.
  2. Demonstrate ability to read, write, follow a written Aide Care Plan and document tasks performed.
  3. Be self-directed and work with minimal supervision.
  4. Demonstrate dependability, tact, patience, and the ability to follow instructions.
  5. Demonstrate good interpersonal communication skills.
  6. Demonstrate ability to show compassion and empathy toward the elderly, sick, and disabled.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
  1. Functions within the limitations of the individual assignment.
  2. Services provided may include supervision and various companionship activities that promote the client’s wellbeing. Companion services typically do not involve hands-on care such as bathing and dressing.
  3. Attends to the client's requests promptly.
  4. Provides companionship, socialization, and light housekeeping services.
  5. Assists with food preparation when included on the Aide Care Plan.
  6. Knows and follows infection control policies including proper hand washing techniques.
  7. Maintains appropriate communication with the Clinical Supervisor (written and verbal) and with all members of the interdisciplinary team.
  8. Documents care given and pertinent observations accurately as directed by the Aide Care Plan.
  9. Treats clients and families with respect. Maintains confidentiality.
  10. Accepts and fulfills assignments with the Agency. Exercises judgment in accepting assignments.
  11. Attends required in-service programs per Agency policy.
