Location

This position is based out of Calgary, AB. Occasional travel will be required, including into the US. Opportunities for flexible work are available.

Responsibilities
  • Performs complex calculations and applies standards correctly without supervision. Takes lead when works with peers.
  • Reviews the work of engineers and designers developing engineering and design documents as needed for the project.
  • Prepare electrical engineering designs, including layout, design schematics, calculations, and conceptual designs, utilizing standard methods and project principles.
  • Schedule, review, and coordinate design efforts with other project personnel, performing bid evaluations of equipment and construction proposals and developing recommendations for contract award.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, maintaining a comprehensive understanding of departmental design standards, applicable engineering codes, and Kiewit guidelines, providing suggestions and recommendations as needed.
  • Work independently on small projects, or as a part of a large multi-discipline team on larger projects, including working with both in-house inter-discipline engineers and construction partners to provide our clients the industry’s best of both engineering and operating facility.
  • Leads mid to large-size project or proposals.
  • Develops and leads others in ways of improving the design and lowering cost.
  • Considers multiple solutions and makes good decisions based on good data analysis.
  • Manages several different assignments simultaneously.
  • Applies techniques/technologies to improve processes and business results.
  • Reviews application of standards for correct code interpretations.
  • Leads quality checks of the design and engineering of a mid to major-sized project to ensure accuracy.
  • Reports to project management team on status and schedule of work.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • At least 10 years’ experience performing electrical design in any one of the oil and gas, power or energy industries.
  • Experience in construction support, facilities commissions and startup and previous experience directing junior engineers is desirable.
  • Experience with electrical equipment (Transformers, Switchgear, Cables, MCCs, Panelboards) sizing and specification.
  • Knowledge of industry codes, guidelines and regulatory standards.
  • Experience with ETAP Electrical Power System Analysis software or similar tool (SKM, EZ-Power, CYMCAP) desired.
  • Knowledgeable in power system calculations including load flow, short circuit, arc flash, equipment sizing, grounding, and relay coordination preferred.
  • Professional Engineering (PEng) designation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel freely in Canada and the US.
