This position is for an Assistant Director in Pilimmaksaivik, the Federal Centre of Excellence for Inuit Employment in Nunavut. It offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, lead a team, and make a difference for Inuit in Nunavut.

The salary range is $112,834 to $129,017, with additional benefits including:

  • A Northern isolated post allowance ranging from approximately $24,531 to $44,262 per year;
  • Two vacation travel assistance per year, approximately $2,000 to $3,000 per dependent.

Rates and conditions are subject to change. Federal government housing is available, and financial assistance for relocation is also provided.

Duties:

As Assistant Director, you will lead a team, manage and develop projects supporting federal obligations, and provide expert advice on Inuit employment strategies, incorporating Inuit culture and values.

Work environment:

Located in Iqaluit, Pilimmaksaivik supports a whole-of-government approach to achieve a representative public service in Nunavut, aligned with the Nunavut Agreement.

Intent of the process:

We aim to fill one permanent full-time position immediately and to develop a pool of qualified candidates for future opportunities at the same level. This pool may be shared with other federal departments in Nunavut and may include acting, deployment, or secondment opportunities, including Interchange Canada.

Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement will be prioritized in this process.

Applicants must demonstrate how they meet the essential qualifications:

  • Education: Secondary school diploma or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience:
    • Providing strategic advice to senior management on complex issues;
    • Developing, implementing, and evaluating government programs involving multiple stakeholders;
    • Managing a team;
    • Managing financial resources, including budgeting and reporting.

Applicants should also address other qualifications:

  • Asset Education: Post-secondary diploma or degree from a recognized institution.
  • Asset Experience:
    • Experience in a Northern environment, preferably Nunavut;
    • Experience in federal or territorial government;
    • Experience working in cross-cultural Inuit and non-Inuit environments.

Additional skills and knowledge assessed later include:

  • Knowledge of Article 23 of the Nunavut Agreement and Inuit culture and values;
  • Effective oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
