Qualifications

  • Valid AZ and/or DZ license required.
  • Willingness to obtain First Aid/CPR certification within 3 months.

Job description

GFL Environmental is seeking full-time AZ/DZ Emergency Response Operators to support our liquid line of business at our Thunder Bay, Ontario location.

The successful candidates will primarily be responsible for collecting various liquid and solid hazardous waste from customer sites.

Key Responsibilities:

The Emergency Response Operator will respond to incidents such as:

  • Environmental and industrial spills
  • Clandestine laboratory decommissioning
  • Highway incidents involving tractor trailers, accidents, and chemical leaks
  • Train derailments involving hazardous chemicals, fires, and site safety planning
  • Marine operations related to fuel spills into open water, including boom deployment and boat operations
  • Weather-related events like wind/ice storms, forest fires, and flooding
  • Chemical assessments and advisory services
  • Coordination with police, fire, EMS, Environment Canada, and other stakeholders
  • Incidents involving heavy equipment, vacuum trucks, and water blasters
  • Collection of hazardous and non-hazardous goods
  • Participation in job-specific and health & safety training
  • Completing documentation and reports related to work
  • Working safely to avoid endangering oneself or others, reporting hazards and incidents
  • Adherence to relevant safety acts and regulations
  • Participation in team/staff meetings as required
  • Maintaining confidentiality and minimizing risks
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:
  • Valid AZ and/or DZ license
  • Flexible availability
  • Strong work ethic
  • Willingness to learn
  • Highly motivated
  • Availability for on-call emergency response work
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain within 3 months
