We are currently looking for a dynamic Maintenance Manager to care for our buildings. This role will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Maintenance Department and all facilities systems throughout the Days Inn Thunder Bay North and Days Inn & Suites Thunder Bay, ensuring that all systems are operational and that an ongoing preventative maintenance plan is in place. The Maintenance Manager provides management and direct support to the maintenance team on all day-to-day hotel maintenance operations and ensures that safety is our top priority when addressing maintenance requests. The successful candidate will work closely with senior leaders to develop and implement strategies and plans to achieve business goals.

Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the General Manager, this position requires a highly motivated and ambitious professional who can work with minimal supervision :
- Work closely with the General Manager and Regional Director of Engineering to ensure the Hotel is ready to welcome guests and ensure exceptional guest experience.
- Keep all building assets in good condition by executing a preventive maintenance program and attend all day-to-day guest requests, and complete all maintenance work requests from all departments on a timely basis.
- Oversee the day-to-day leadership of the Maintenance department, which includes scheduling, coordinating daily tasks, teaching maintenance skills to the team and ensuring work is performed at a high standard.
- Oversee the physical operations of the Hotel, including maintenance and repair of interior and exterior areas.
- Communicate goals and tasks clearly and hold team members accountable for their work.
- Develop a building maintenance operating strategy that is aligned with the property / brand’s business strategy.
- Ensure all team members are properly trained and have the tools needed to effectively carry out their respective job duties.
- Identify and resolve all guest concerns / complaints to ensure the brand promise is delivered.
- Make recommendations pertaining to capital and operating expenditures necessary to maintain the property to its maximum potential.
- Perform other duties as assigned including assisting team member with their roles during peak periods.
- Establish processes that ensure strong communication among departments and a seamless guest experience.
- Analyze problems, identify courses of action, and implement solutions with available resources.
- Be available for any emergencies and act in an engineering capacity to protect guests and team members.
What We are Looking for...
- Managerial experience in facility maintenance or engineering in a Hotel or related industry.
- Post-secondary degree / diploma in Tourism or Hospitality is an asset.
- Experience with Facilities Management or Building Maintenance is required.
- Pool Operators Certificate and First Aid / CPR an asset.
- Must hold valid Class G driver’s license with no restrictions.
- Demonstrated experience in general finishing and decoration including painting, wall covering, flooring etc. is strongly preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational, technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong computer skills, with knowledge of Microsoft Office and Hotel Property Management Systems is an asset.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Able to think clearly in pressure situations, exercise good judgment, and focus attention on details.
- Is able to endure an abundance of physical movements in the performance of job duties.
- Highly interpersonal; comfortable engaging with all guests, visitors, vendors, and team members.
- Experience in financial management for a housekeeping department is an asset.
- Experience working in a unionized environment will be considered an asset.
- Legally authorized to work in Canada.
- A positive attitude is a must!
- Must be available to work flexible shifts which may include days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays as required by management.
